What is nephrology?

Nephrology is a subspecialty of internal medicine.

It is concerned with diagnosing, treating and managing of kidney problems and renal (kidney) replacement therapies, such as dialysis and kidney transplantation.

Nephrologists are specialized doctors that treat systemic conditions affecting kidneys, such as diabetes and autoimmune disease, as well as hypertension (high blood pressure), kidney stones evaluation/prevention and electrolyte disturbances.
